WHAT is Charleston Guns to Gardens?
Guns to Gardens (G2G) is a nationwide program that gives individuals a safe, effective, and efficient means to safely surrender unwanted firearms. We organized Charleston Guns 2 Garden in late 2023 and conducted our first Safe Surrender Event in May 2024.
Our 2025 Safe Surrender Event will take place on May 3rd, 2025, at St. Mark’s UMC, 900 Washington St., E., Charleston, West Virginia. Your donation can help us to obtain grocery gift cards from Walmart and Kroger which we give to those who bring their guns to our Safe Surrender Event as a token of our appreciation.

At that first local Guns to Gardens event, 17 individuals surrendered 27 firearms which were dismantled on site. There were 4 single shot rifles/shotguns, 16 handguns, and 7 semi-automatic weapons.

All firearms were dismantled with chop saws and our partner non-profit, RAWTools-South, took the gun parts to their forge in Asheville, NC where they were reformed into jewelry, art and garden tools (available for sale at https://south.rawtools.org).
In addition, RAWTools-South sent a variety of garden tools and jewelry to Charleston’s First Presbyterian Church for sale at their annual Hope Village Craft Sale in December 2024.
The program includes a defined process for inspection of a firearm (to ensure it’s not loaded), dismantling the firearm, cutting up the firearm’s metal components, melting down the metal elements, and transforming the melted metal elements into life-affirming garden tools.
G2G offers a practical solution for the safe surrender and disposal of unwanted firearms, along with pastoral guidance and direction, is prophetic, transformational (inner & outer), and non-oppositional. So, help us if you can with a donation through Venmo.
